Getting Started with Flight Training in Florida: Medical Exams and Fingerprinting

Getting a US medical examination was my first priority after arriving in the US. Without it, I wouldn’t be able to fly legally. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to visit the doctor yesterday, so I spent most of the day sleeping. I’m guessing it was just jet lag.

This morning, I finally made it to the doctor for the examination, which was quick and took less than an hour. Since I don’t need a first-class medical certificate until I get my ATP (which is still far in the future), I opted for a second-class certificate, which is cheaper.

As a bonus, now I know my weight in pounds and my height in feet and inches 🙂

In addition to the medical exam, I also had to get my fingerprints taken, as is required for all foreign students. The process was quick and professional.

I received my syllabus, maps, and books, which didn’t contain any new information except for the maps. Fortunately, I had already started learning the material in Moscow, so I have a better understanding of what I need to do. I am following a part 141 program, and the schedule here is tight, so I’m considering studying CPL books during my free time to be better prepared for practical lessons.
