The Part 141 course requires an internal school check flight before allowing students to have a checkride. This check is usually performed by the school chief pilot or a senior flight instructor. In my case, the school owner, Tom Davis, will conduct the check.
The weather is fine today, and I need to demonstrate that I am ready for the checkride. This means proper flight planning, good airplane control, demonstrating correct recovery from unusual attitudes, correct holding procedures, and executing stable approaches.
The most challenging part for me is the approaches. They require precise piloting, proper estimation, and performing multiple tasks simultaneously. Surprisingly, holding procedures are a bit difficult for me too, especially teardrop entries. Calculating the heading at the beginning of the procedure is not so easy when you have to stay on the proper holding side.
I believe that I am ready for the checkride, but mastering all this stuff will require much more time and constant practice. Regardless, I passed the internal school check, and in a few days, I will have the actual checkride. It’s been a great journey, but it’s only the beginning!
